Patient Preparation for CT examinations
In examinations like CT angiography of visceral vessels, abdominal aorta and iliac arteries and in cases of axial urography no contrast material is used.
Examination Upper-Lower Abdomen and Retroperitoneum
For the successful examination of the abdomen it is required not to eat / drink 6 hours before the exam, it is necessary to use a Gastrografin solution (Gastrografin).
For upper abdomen examination the patient drinks one (1) cap of Gastrografin diluted in one (1) glass of water, with the following dosage:
- Half (½) hour before the examination → 2 cups.
- Immediately prior to testing → 1 glass.
For upper-lower abdomen and retroperitoneum examination the patient drinks one (1) cap of Gastrografin diluted in one (1) glass of water, with the following dosage:
- The night before the exam, 10:00pm. → 2 cups.
- Two (2) hours before the examination → 2 cups.
- Half (½) hour before the examination → 2 cups.
- Immediately prior to testing → 1 glass.
In cases with a history of alergic sensitization and / or asthma it is necessary to contact your physician with the Health Centre to recommend preparing desensitization in contrast iodide to be given to you intravenously.
