Bone Density
The modern Lunar DPX PRO system from General Electric achieves the examination of bone density with the new method of dual energy absorptiometry beam (DEXA) in just 4 minutes. It also provides reliable and accurate measurement of whole-body fat distribution with the Body Composition protocol – determination of fat.

The measurement of bone density by the DEXA method is the most commonly used method to assess osteoporosis, a situation which often affects women after menopause, but can also be found in men and rarely in children.
A DEXA examination can also evaluate a person's risk for the development of fractures.
The examination is recommended:
-
in postmenopausal women not receiving estrogen.
-
in women who have a personal or maternal history of hip fracture or are smokers.
-
in patients with clinical conditions associated with bone loss.
-
in patients using drugs that are known to cause bone loss, including corticosteroids, as prednisone, various antiepileptic medication, Dilantin and some barbiturates.
-
in patients with type 1 diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease or a family history of osteoporosis
-
in patients with hyperthyroidism or any parathyroid condition , as hyperparathyroidism.
-
to those who have suffered a fracture after minor injuries.
-
those with radiographic findings suggestive of vertebral fracture or other signs of osteoporosis.
